Quilting Hoops and Frames
When quilters decide that they need to get a better finish on their fabric for their quilting projects, they will either use a quilting frame, or quilting hoops and frames. A quilting frame is shaped like a square, or like a long rectangle. Typically, a quilting frame is quite large and in many cases, they can be the size of very large tables. Because of their large scale, they are helpful for quilting projects such as art for one’s wall, or a blanket.
When a person thinks about a large quilt that would fit on the wall, they can think about the typical quilts that might be seen in a museum. If a person has ever seen any of these ornate pieces of art, then they can get a picture in their minds of the type of quilting art that would require a quilt frame. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if the person is working on a smaller scale project, then all they would need is quilting hoops and frames. These do a great job of stretching out fabric, so that a person can work on smaller pieces of fabric for jobs such as a pillow, or a specialized square of quilted fabric.
The quilting hoops and frames are much smaller than larger frames. Instead of being single ply, they are double ply. These come with a circle loop, with a smaller circle that fits snugly inside the first loop. These are joined together by a hinge. These two loops are opened up, and then the fabric is placed inside. The fabric is clamped down between these hoops. This way, the quilter can create a more accurate stitch.
Whether or not person wants to use the quilting hoops and frames is up to them, and it would depend upon their project. For example, if a person is creating a throw pillow out of quilted material, then they might find that quilting hoops and frames are just what they need. This makes sure that their pattern is sewn the way that it should be, so that their pattern isn’t sewn crooked.
Quilted material can be used for small projects, such as pants pockets, or purses for example. Sometimes, a person might be working on a small section of a larger product. If they are working on a smaller section, then they will want to use the quilting hoop and frames as well. Quilting hoops can be purchased online at retailers that sell quilting supplies. They are very inexpensive to buy, and the great thing about these is that they are very easy to store, because they are small in size.
One doesn’t have to worry about these taking up all the space in the room. They can very easily fit inside one’s closet, or in a storage bin that a person would keep all of their quilting supplies in. So again, if a quilter is looking to give their projects a professional touch, and to create projects that look as if they were sewn professionally, then it might be to their advantage to purchase some quilting hoops and frames.
