Elevate Education Quality through LMS
It is the society’s conscientiousness to establish the importance of education in its citizen’s development. Education is a basic human right and a privilege that should be acquired by any person in the society.
The success of man can be rooted from his education attainment. Citizens in the society should be able to acquire the best quality of education. After all it is the same entity—the society—that will benefit from the fruits of what it cultivated.
Education is greatly dependent on the type of system that a society has. Man’s fate can be remarkably rooted from the quality of education he earned during his formative years.
To-date, racial discrimination still exists particularly in public schools hence, this has become one of the issues of quality of education. The African American race is known to have been taking the shame from rejection and mockery. Unfortunately, both students and educators who belong to the minority group are being prejudiced even in school premises. When members of the academic institution are not fairly treated by the administration, then this where the education problem starts.
There are numerous problems in public education in the United Stated today, and one of those adhering issues is racial discrimination. Misguided school systems and policies are the primary cause of the declining education quality of public schools. The society condemns inequality but the centers for learning themselves discounts the issue of racial discrimination existing in their premises. Apparently not only the students who belong to the minority group such as the African American race who are prejudiced, the same minority group of educators are also singled out in their own academic institution.
Despite years of battle for equality, racial discrimination is still one of the common crises in the public schools of the country. The minority groups such as the African American race are inferior of the white Americans. Both the non-white students and teachers are subject to discrimination in almost all public schools. Influential institutions such as public schools are not able to resolve the problem on racial discrimination, hence the issue worsens all the more.
The primary reason for African American and other minority students to perform poorly in school is inferiority complex. The colour of their skin becomes an automatic declaration of weakness, inadequacy, and a disability in school or in the society. To avoid being discriminated more, minority students tend to keep themselves mum, unable to speak out their minds. Studies in the past have shown the equal performance level of both white and non-white students when tests were done out of school. When the same standardized tests were administered in public schools, turned out that the percentile score of the whites outweighed that of the minority’s. In other words, the atmosphere in the school plays a vital role in the learning progress of the minority students.
Students who experienced discrimination in school are the ones least likely to excel in class. Minority students were afraid to speak their minds out and chose to keep mum about standing up against the whites—not until the first black president came out. Studies conducted on the performance of home-schooled students through standardized tests showed that the minority group did equally well with the whites. However, when the same tests were administered to the students in public schools, there was a great disparity between the grades of the whites and the minority group. No doubt about it, home-schooling and public schooling produce different types of students—this should tell about the influence of the learning environment.
Non-white students seldom excel in academic activities because of inferiority complex. Their self confidence is way too low because they are “coloured”. Inferiority complex is the result of the students’ fear of being rejected. In a past study conducted to assess the success performance of home-schooled students, it was found out that minority students played equally well with the whites. In the public school set-up, the performance of the whites outweighed that of the minority. In essence, it is the appropriateness of the study place that contributes significantly to the capability of the students in academics.
Discrimination does not only happen with minority students, even educators are deliberately rejected and humiliated, just like the retrenchment that occurred in a public school. In a public school, African American teachers who are in service for more than several decades were terminated—being replaced by white teachers who were younger in the profession.
Discrimination is not only true for students; even African American educators also get rejected, humiliated and discriminated. One Chicago public school has deliberately terminated a group of veteran educators in compliance to the turnaround plan of the administration. Incidentally, white American teachers were their replacement whose stint in the profession was at the novice level.
Further, racial discrimination does not only pound the students, but even the educators or teachers, who are African American or belong to the minority group, have to live with it. In a recent incident, Chicago public school terminated non-white educators. Call it coincidence, the educators laid off were African American, and were replaced by younger white teachers.
Can this dilemma of racial discrimination in the public education be resolved?
There is an answer to this issue of racial discrimination despite its age.
The fate of the minority groups lies primarily on the hands of the school administrators’ will power.
A learning management system or LMS can answer all the problems of discrimination at school. Education and training can be monitored and managed by the schools through the LMS, software. It can answer administrative undertakings of schools such as record-keeping, online training and discussions, and many more. Can LMS really help eradicate discrimination in public schools? LMS is web-based, hence, students no longer need to go to the classroom physically to attend to class. This means that the chance of an African American student of being bullied or intimidated in schools will slim down, if not totally cut off. The LMS will encourage every student from any race to express his opinions and insights through online discussions without the fear of rejection. Similarly, since the LMS is a center for development course work of educators, the teachers themselves do not have to be apprehensive about their age, colour, or the like. The school should be able to keep the best educators instead of laying them off. Finally, since an LMS can measure the performance of each student based on inputs, this ensures students and parents as well that equal treatment is prevailing in gaining merits. Unlike in a classroom set-up, biases or favouritism on selected students have no chance of occurring.
Absolutely, public school administrators can adopt a learning management system, software, which will help them monitor, assess, track, and manage academic and administrative tasks. Practising LMS would mean that students will be going virtual learning instead of going to the school premises physically. Hence, chances of being rejected in public will be lessened since interaction of students will only be online. Since classes are held online, minority students can already free themselves from fears of rejection and discrimination during discussions. Development of course work will be at optimum since the educators will be able to focus on the training materials and manuals. Meaning, regardless of their age and colour, it is the quality of work or the content of their lessons is substantiated, and not something else. Each student in the class, regardless of colour, will be given an objective assessment of his academic performance. There will no longer be wasted efforts because of a bias grading system in virtual learning. Students who submit inputs will definitely acquire grades accordingly.
Yes there is. Racial discrimination can be beaten up by adopting a learning management system in public schools. Designed for managing training courses and educational undertakings, LMS is software available for the consumption of public schools in the country. LMS promotes virtual learning which develops other facets of a student’s life aside from the academic tasks. Public education can be made technology-inclined through an LMS. In terms of administrative tasks, an LMS can be used to keep records, share materials, display training manuals, and many more. The virtual technology will challenge the students not only to handle deadlines, but to manage their learning habits well through the LMS. More than the academic requirements, students will develop their sense of responsibility and belongingness in the online group—instead of rejecting each other. Instead of physically going to school, the student will be able to attend classes and gain training online. Racial differences will already be out of the question since students will learn to speak their minds out, eliminating timidity. Minority educators will also be empowered with the role they portray in the development of students using a learning management system. Fairness in the grading system is one way to fully condemn discrimination in school. Fairness in judgment is expected to dominate in the public education arena.
The use of a learning management will teach students both academic matters and character-building concepts. Since online discussions and trainings no longer require physical presence in the classroom, students will learn to manage their own academic undertakings based on priority. Public schools can take advantage of what captures the interest of this generation of technology integrating learning with quality through an LMS.
Virtual learning has a lot of benefits and is very promising for the students of this generation of technology. It is expected that the school gets to capture the interest of its students through the LMS. The LMS brings a lot of benefits to the members of the school and the school itself. The quality of education in the country can be restored through a learning management system because of the character-building that it also demands from the students.
Public schools which adopt learning management system will surely extricate the problem of racial discrimination. This is just the first step to regaining the genuine quality of education in the country. The use of a learning management system does not only benefit the students, parents, or the school, but the entire society in the long run.
