How much should I charge for sewing aprons for a store?
I’m a decent seamstress looking to make some extra cash. A store I ran into has precut aprons they need sewn (really poor quality sewing right now) with decals added and each one made super frilly with decoration. Nothing too difficult. They sell for $30 a piece. All the fabric is provided, as well as the decals. How much is appropriate to charge, per apron, so that I can make a decent wage and the store can cut a decent profit?
How long does it take you to sew one, and how much do you need to make per hour? If you’re competent, and it sounds like you are, you should be making about what good hairdressers make in your area. Remember, you’re going to need to pay taxes on the amount you make, and it sounds like you’ll be paying for the thread, too, as well as wear and tear and upkeep on your machines, possible need to get a business insurance rider, and the power for your machines and iron.
Personally, I won’t sew what someone else has cut unless the cutting and patterns are up to my quality standards. I don’t want to waste my time trying to make something work when it wasn’t right to begin with.
