Get Baby to Sleep through the Night
One of the greatest challenges that new parents face is in getting the baby to sleep through the night. Most newlyweds nowadays are either very young or those that have to balance multiple jobs just to earn big money to support the growing family. After the parents get over the overwhelming happiness of having a new life, the reality of having sleepless night will sink in their sense little by little.
Getting the baby to sleep is not an easy task. The baby is adjusting from the mother’s womb and the new environment which may cause irregular sleeping patterns. Another factor that causes most newborns to wake up almost every 2 to 3 hours at night is the need for feeding. It is also a fact that mothers have to face that not all infants have the same sleeping patterns so it would be futile trying to force a baby to sleep as the other does.
The key to resolve this overwhelming burden is to examine first the environmental factors which affect the ability of your baby to fall asleep and stay asleep. Most people would say that a noisy environment is disturbing for your baby, but there are many studies done that suggest otherwise. When the noise in the environment has a rhythm, it becomes a pattern that the baby would be more accustomed listening to, especially if this kind of noise can be heard by the baby day after day. These monotonous noise can then be called nose pattern, which in some cases, can give your baby some comfort at night and help in making him fall asleep.
These noise patterns can come from sounds you use to hear around the house and which you haven’t expected to be helpful. These can come from fans, air conditioners, dryers and even fans. Day after day, these appliances are part of the daily household chores and you will be amazed that these can be useful in putting your baby to sleep. These are just some of the electrical equipments that can be used to your advantage. Other sources include the usual ticking of a clock or sounds of running water which can also produce relaxation in babies at night. Once they hear the same noise pattern over and over again, they can associate it to the comfortable feeling of being at home and recognize that they are safe.
This simple solution of having noise patterns is the same idea being used by manufacturers of crib decorations which have recorded musical songs and melodies that will put your baby to sleep not only through the night but even in daytime naps. If buying this recorded lullabies sounds expensive to some mothers, another solution is to record their own. Recording is now made easy with the advancement in technology and through the use of a computer, making your own compilation in a CD is a lot easier. Some mothers even record their own voices singing and will play it in the baby’s crib through the night.
This noise patterns technique can be used as long as it works. When it no longer has an effect on your baby, think of ways why it didn’t work. It is possible that the noise pattern was too loud, disturbing, or maybe the newborn just don’t like it. As parents, you must be creative in knowing what your baby want through his simple gestures and assign a meaning to every move. That way you will be able to tell if the baby has any unmet needs and be able to do what is needed to make your baby feel safe, secure and extremely loved.
