Tips For Creating Your Own Party Invitations At Home
Party-givers have access to a tremendous selection of invitations in this day and age. No matter the occasion, there are an unbelievable number of free downloadable invitations you can print at home. As might be expected, there are many general invitation types, such as free anniversary invites. But there are also many free printable invitations for very specific party types. For instance, bridal shower invites and many others.
DIY invitations are usually fairly easy to prepare if you have a word processing application, such as Microsoft Word or EasyOffice; or a publishing program, like Microsoft Publisher or The Print Shop Professional. You just pop the invitation image into the software, size it and print as many copies as you want. As simple as that is, though, you’ll want to be aware of some subtleties when creating the invitations. The following advice will help you master those subtleties and allow you to get the best results from the free invitation art:
- When using MS Word or other word processing software, use tables or text boxes to get two or more invitations on the page. This will save card stock and your time. (You’ll probably find that using a table is the easier method to use. If you’re unacquainted with using text boxes or tables, read the help menu of your word processing software application.) Make sure to match up no less than one edge of the invitation art to the other, so you can eliminate one cut.
- When you cut the invitations apart, you’ll get the best results if you use a paper cutter. If you don’t happen to have one lying around the house, you can pay someone to cut them at a print shop, copy center or office supply store that offers that service. If you don’t have use of a paper cutter at all, another approach is to use a craft knife, ruler and cutting board. And if nothing else, you may use scissors. If you do, draw light pencil lines first, so you know where to cut. If you know you can’t cut straight, try using patterned scissors that will hide any cutting imperfections.
- Once your invitations are cut, you might want to take the extra step of enhancing them. There is a range of three-dimensional embellishments available at craft stores. These include stickers, brads, rhinestones, artificial flowers and many other types of additions. Three-dimensional paint or glitter glue can also be used to make the invitations truly your own. Be careful with this, however, because less is more when it comes to embellishment. Use the glue or paint sparingly. And it’s a good idea to have extra invitations, so you can experiment until you get the best look.
