5 Unconventional Uses for a Patchwork Quilt
If you are an ardent quilter like I am , chances are you have made well more than one patchwork quilt. I have several of these quilts in my cupboards, lots of which see virtually no use in any way. These are the ones that are great but I don't feel any specific love for.
I was thinking of how I could get more use out of them round the house and came up with a few concepts.
Right, before we start, I should mention that these ideas are for the quilts you do not treasure, ones that will get wet, ripped, worn out, stretched and to cut it short … damaged.
Children’s Play Mat
I’ve seen children’s play mats priced as high as $150! Why would you spend so much money on something you could get for free?
I put down an old patchwork quilt for the children to play on and they loved it! They made up games that made use of the patches and squares, a lot like snakes and ladders.
Automobile Cover
This one came to me in a bit of desperateness. It had been raining for most of the day. As the temperature went down, the rain turned into hail and the hail started getting bigger and bigger. It started getting to a point where it was damaging my auto, putting dents in the paintwork.
I reached for the nearest cover I could find and in this situation, my patchwork quilt and threw it over the vehicle. It worked like a charm and my auto escaped with just a few dents.
Table Cloth
I have a friend with a nice antique table in their craft room. When they’d like to use the table for their hobby, they put one of their quilts over the top to protect the wood and polish. Pretty imaginative!
Curtains
Why pay for new curtains when you can repurpose an existing patchwork quilt to do the same job?
Using it as curtains also adds a lot of warmth and a charm to a room that store brought curtains simply can’t give you.
Couch Throwover
Because its a quilt doesn’t mean you have to use it on a bed. Using an old one to cover a couch not only protects the fabric of the couch, but also truly comes in handy on those cold winter evenings in the front room!
So there you go, many methods in which you can put your old patchwork quilts to good use in other areas.
