How can I tell if a gig bag will fit my guitar ?
I have a Dean Exotica Quilt Ash Acoustic Electric Guitar. Here is a picture http://www.music123.com/productDetail/productDetail.jsp?entProductId=515354
I tried to see what size the guitar is so I could fit it with a bag but it just says on the site that its 25-1/2″ scale.
I wanted to buy a gig bag for it online cuz its much cheaper than buying it at the music store. Anyone care to help me figure this out ?
The description 25 1/2″ scale simply refers to the vibrating length of the strings…..the distance from the nut to the bridge. That’s a full sized guitar, but doesn’t describe any of the dimensions of the body. Since there are different shapes of full sized guitars, there really isn’t enough info about your gig bag to go on. If you scroll to the bottom of the page in your link, there are some Dean cases which will probably fit your guitar.
Remember, a hard-shell case gives much more protection than a gig bag. Musicians Friend has acoustic hard-shell cases for $39.99 and they list the dimensions of the case. http://www.music123.com/productDetail/productDetail.jsp?entProductId=515354 Your guitar isn’t a dreadnought…it’s either a jumbo or grand auditorium style with a cut-away….but it will most likely fit a dreadnought case. Just take some measurements from your guitar. You’ll need the overall length, upper and lower bout widths. The bouts are the two widest parts of the body.
