Finding Space For Your Kids’ Stuff In A Small Kid’s Bedroom
Of all the bedrooms in the house the child’s bedroom is always the smallest. Sometimes surprisingly small. This can leave you without much space for storage. When you don’t have much room horizontally you have to think vertically.
A loft bed is typically about five feet off the ground offering a solid bed but leaving all the space in the bedroom available for use. If two are sharing the room you’ll need two. There is still the standby of bunk beds which are fun. A trundle bed is a good option also. Two beds occupy one space. When it is time for bed one bed rolls out from underneath the other. In the morning just slide it back into place.
If you’d like to add a desk in the room but do not want to take up the extra space, loft beds with desk are a choice. The bed is still on top and the desk is usually made into one of the sides so no additional space is used.
Plastic bins that can be stacked can make for a great organizing tool. All of you child’s things can be organized and grouped and placed in bins. These can be open front where all things are visible. These make cleaning up quick and easy since everything has its place. If there are shelves in the room try clear bins with lids. These can be stacked as well. They must be clear so your child knows what is in them. Otherwise you will find all the bins open, without lids, in the middle of the floor because they were looking for one item.
The space underneath the bed can be utilized for more than dust bunnies and shoes that go missing. Beds are available that have drawers built in underneath. Much like the trundle bed these drawers slide out from under the bed. Depending on the height of the bed they can be deep and may be one long drawer or four smaller drawers. There are plastic storage bins that can fit under a normal bed. These would be used for those things that aren’t used often.
Storage bags that are vacuum sealed are super space savers. A large item or a large amount of clothing can fit into a space that is only a couple of inches thick. You can pile them on top of each other at the top of the closet. When winter is over put the bulky comforters in them and put them away. As the seasons change take out one season and put away another. This way the closet and drawers are never crowded with clothing.
An over the door shoe organizer can be used for art supplies. Each pocket can hold, a set of crayons, a set of brushes, different paint sets and paper. Kids often have their own things they like to collect. This is the perfect place to make sure those buttons, stickers, rocks, balls, etc. Are kept in one place. Other supplies like empty toilet paper rolls, felt, glue, glitter, and of course shoes can fit in it.
These are just some space saving and organizing tips. The top bed for saving space is the loft bed with desk. Underneath it you can put the stackable storage and off the opposite side you can hang the shoe organizer. Sleeping and storage all in one space. Choose any or all of the ideas to add a little more space for fun in a small bedroom.
