Unique Flags of Europe – the “Blue White”
All countries in Europe have fascinating flags representing them, including the Greek flag, which personally is very much one of my favorites. Like other national flags, this particular banner is also referred to as: the blue-white flag or just blue white.
The national flag of Greece features 9 equally sized horizontal stripes, which are alternating in color displaying the colors blue and white. Also, a white cross is shown in the canton section of the Greek flag. If you would ask me, the flag of Greece displays wonderfully from most flagpoles.
A series of different flags are used for purposes of identification in Greece. One such banner is the presidential flag, which is obviously hoisted on flag poles to indicate that the President of Greece is present. It displays a blue field and a silvered colored cross and various other elements. The country’s history includes a wonderfully rich history of all kinds of banners flags that were used in the past by people of all kinds.
Europeans as well as those living in countries in other parts of the world consider Greece one very popular holiday or vacation destination. Its respective culture has evolved over a period counting thousands of years, which include Classical Greece and the Hellenistic Period, as well as the influences of the Roman Empire.
For the time being, as well as in years to come, the people of Greece will be tried as they deal with a very significant and dangerous economic situation.
Like other flags of Europe, some controversy remains in existence with regards to the flag’s history, especially about the flag’s pattern. Fascinatingly, the colors as well as the design of the arrangement of the stripes are said to go back all the way to historical times.
Not a lot of information exists on why the flag was adopted back during the 1820-s. Some professionals in history claim that the current flag-design as hoisted on residential and commercial flagpoles is based on a Greek flag that was flown before the current one. As with most controversies surrounding historical banners and flags, and because of a lack of historic facts, this will be a theory hard to prove.
