Costumes For Children – Five Easy Homemade Costumes Children Adore!

Are you stuck for ideas for your children’s Halloween costumes? Just look in your closet! You in all probability have a tonne of stuff already lying around the house that you can make use of for costumes children will adore to wear.

Here’s five easy and amusing Halloween costumes children can show off in, and that you can knock together out of items you either have in your closet, or from simple stuff you can make use of from friends or find inexpensively at most thrift stores.

Pirate Children’s Costume

For boys, start with a loose button-down shirt. Cut the ends of the sleeves so that they look all ragged. For girls, you’ll get the same effect with a peasant blouse. Add a vest on top of it by cutting up an old shirt. Boys can wear baggy trousers, girls a skirt which is cut all raggedy along the bottom. Combine with boots, or just put on black shoes and make it look as if you have boots on by puting on black leg warmers and folding them over at the top. Add a bandana on the head, and a piece of fabric around the waist for a belt. Get party bags with a skull and crossbones on them, or make your own from a pillow case.

Nerd Children’s Costume

One of the costumes children get a huge kick out of! Just have on clothes that are far too small, with too short cuffs and ‘flood’ pants pulled up too high. Do the shirt right up to the top. White socks and black shoes, plus a pocket protector, finalize the look. Gel the hair into a geeky style, and add a few zits with makeup. A rucksack can be used for a loot bag.

Gypsy Children’s Costume

So easy! For girls, a peasant blouse with layers of colorful skirts, sashes around their head and waist, and lots of fancy  jewellery. For boys, a white shirt unbuttoned at the top to show lots of gold necklaces, plus loose-fitting pants tucked into a pair of boots and a sash around the head and waist. Decorate a pillow case with glitter, sequins and scarves for a party bag.

Cowboy Children’s Costume

It’s highly likely that you’ve got a pair of jeans somewhere around… just add a plain button-up shirt, and tie a head band around their neck or tuck one into their back pocket. You’ll find straw cowboy hats, western style vests and cowboy boots at most charity shops. For a party bag, use a paper bag with handles or a tin bucket.

Tourist Children’s Costume

This is an additional fun costume children get pleasure from. Your young ones probably have Bermuda shorts, or something roughly the same. Locate a Hawaiian shirt (It’s likely that you’ve got one of these lying aound somewhere too!) and add a sun visor, sandals with socks, and a few cameras around their neck. You can also fill their trouser pockets with travel brochures which are easy enough to come by at a travel agency. For more fun, give them a carry-on bag to use as their loot bag!
